Worm farm - methods to keep them cool in 40C-46C heat.

In this picture is the hidden dalek shaped compost bin, after noticing the worms didn't inhabit the contents when the temps go up into the 40C range.
Part of summer, 4 days over 45C, had 17days over 40C,.
These pictures were taken on a 41C day.

Thinking of ways to keep the worm farm cool.
Surrounded with soil, and will grow more vet. Instead of a wet blanket, a hydroponic tub with perlite, and water, so the evaporating water cools the top.
39 in the shade, and 23C inside the worm farm. The max temp worms like is 26C, hence they should be fine
If there isn't enough soil, it's easier to dig a hole than make a mound.

Pot worm farm

In ground worm farm made of pots.  These can directly feed the veg plants. The perlite keeps the top section light, while providing insulation.
Now for the worms. Not a can of worms, but a box of worms.

What to keep out of the worm farm, flies.

Chickens- In Australia we call them chooks, after the noise they make when one has found food and is calling the others.

Hope the chickens won't feel they are being left out, after all they do lay eggs. Some keep observers will note the border collie, when it's not rounding up sheep, it's rounding up the chickens.
