May 2014 meeting, Fuchsias', Guest Speaker, from Weald View Gardens Ashton.

May 2014 meeting - Fuchsia Night

The main topic of the meeting was Fuchsias, with the 'take home message' to treat Fuchsias in Adelaide as roses, with a light summer prune as well as a winter prune. A summer prune is required as they can't carry a lot of foliage and flowers in during the 45C heat waves.

The use 50% shade cloth is recommended, but don't over-tend to them, as the foliage will be at a higher risk of burning in the sun. Fuchsias need to become hardy in order to survive the summer heat waves.

It is best to keep Fuchsias for only a few years, strike cuttings and discard the original, or treat as an Annuals.

Various floral arrangements were entered into the monthly competition as below.

Desert Limes handed around for viewing and tasting ( if you dare)
